This Sussex, WI project began with the careful setup of scaffolding to ensure safe and stable access to the roof. Fox River selected a secure location for the scaffolding and used a combination of masonry/wood support bolts, wall braces, roof jacks, and rooftop planking to create a safe working platform. All equipment was installed with minimal impact to the existing structure, and any areas affected during setup were repaired with matching shingles and properly caulked and sealed. Setup and teardown spanned multiple days, depending on site conditions.

The primary scope of work involved the complete removal of the existing chimney down past the roofline. To protect the surrounding roof during demolition, tarps and blankets were laid out. Once the chimney was removed, the area was redecked, sealed with Ice & Water Shield, and shingled over using matching materials. A transition piece for a future gas B-vent system was also installed, enabling the eventual addition of a gas insert by Country Stove and Fireplace, who will supply all necessary liner parts.

Additionally, an existing roof antenna near the chimney was removed to allow for proper flashing installation. The area was then sealed with Ice & Water Shield, re-shingled, and caulked as needed to ensure a watertight finish.
